[Weekly Vinyl] The Adventures of Coloredman

It’s 1966 and this is one of the more unusual comedy Lp’s to come out of the new trend in marketing to black record buyers, not with music, but with comedy. It was written by the prolific soul writer / producer Teddy Vann. Although he wasn’t destined to be as big of a name as Berry Gordy, he did leave behind a legacy of some great sides in the ‘60s and ‘70s, but this isn’t one of them. The most astounding role on this Lp is who Vann cast in the lead role as ‘Coloredman.’ That’s James Earl Jones, more than a decade before he stretched his superpowers to fill the role of Darth Vader.

The story goes like this…the planet Ebony sent down a spaceship with a little baby Ebonite to help earth with his super powers (I.Q. of 930, could outrace a jet, and lift 12,000 pounds). He assumed the normal earth name Walter Brooks, and took a normal job as a relief postman. He wore Ramsey Lewis style shades and tried to blend in, despite his role as ‘Coloredman.'
